London - The forgotten parts

Gareth forgot a few things in the last blog so as he predicted, I will fill in some blanks from London. Our second day there we did a day trip and caught the train up to Hampton Court Palace (which served as Lara Croft’s mansion in the Tomb Raider movies). We even took part in a live theatre piece as guests of the Royal Court on the day Queen Mary gave birth to Prince Edward I! It was all very exciting as you can well imagine.

On the night we went to G.A.Y Club, we had our first dodgy overseas experience – the cab drivers. In London the cab companies have such heavy restrictions on who can be a driver that it’s opened up an underground cabbie network and when you come out of a club, they come and offer their services. The best part is because they’re not licensed, you haggle with them for the best price depending on where you want to go. If you don’t like their price, you can move onto the next one – which we did a couple of times before finding one that would take us back to Mark’s house for £25. Considering the first one wanted £35, we got quite a bargain!

Observations
  • Gareth found out that even in London, woollen jumpers shrink when washed in hot water. Luckily, it now fits me so it’s not a complete waste!
  • It pays to check which direction the tube is going. Simply finding the right line is not enough.
  • Don’t take anything a stranger offers to you in the street. They’re generally a gypsy, a crook or some other form of dodgy character and will then want you to pay for whatever it is they’ve given you. Luckily, the Sydney rudeness lives in me and I’ve become very good at yelling “No” in their faces and pushing past them with my hands securing my pockets of course)
  • Eating lots of hot brekkies and 2 course lunch and dinners tends to take its toll. G and I have both put on 2kg so far. Little fatty fat hats.
